Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

The Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) has been updated for 2010/11. The SHLAA forms a key part of the evidence base for the Local Development Framework and in particular the Joint Core Strategy.

Planning Policy Statement 3 sets out the Government's approach to housing and requires all local authorities to produce a SHLAA to evaluate the availability of land for housing within their area.

The primary role of the SHLAA is to:

  • identify sites with potential for housing
  • assess their housing potential
  • assess when they are likely to be developed

The SHLAA does not determine or make recommendations as to whether particular sites should be allocated for housing development nor does the SHLAA determine whether planning permission should be granted.

The most recently published SHLAAs, can be downloaded from the respective local authority website by clicking on the relevant link below.

- Gloucester SHLAA|
- Cheltenham SHLAA|
- Tewkesbury SHLAA|

Sites are now being accepted for assessment by the 2011/12 update to the SHLAA. A site submission form can be downloaded here.| Submissions of potential sites to be included in 2011/12 assessment will be accepted until 30 March 2012 and these should be sent to the contact address of the relevant local authority.
